I was working with a college English Professor/Poet to polish my artist's statement in preparation for a feature exhibit as well as the launch of this website. As we were working on developing the statement, I was thinking about the concept of "Alternate Realities" which is the overall theme of the artist's statement. I had an interesting photo of the Port Washington harbor but I felt it was fairly conventional and I was in the mood to do something really unique with it.
First, I cropped the image to a square. This is the same format used in my iPhoneography photos. Because I am a fan of using "false color" when appropriate, I took the image into Photoshop and applied some painting effects. That gave me the color effect that I was trying to achieve but the final image needed texture. Two apps later, I had the photo that I wanted.

Usually I'll create several versions of a photo within the apps and narrow down the choices to a single pick. In the case of "Shoreline", I couldn't really make up my mind which I liked better and decided to go with two versions. Both versions started with the false color version that I created in photoshop.

The first version retained the false color and added texture in the sky and water. This effect really added a glow and "surreal feel" to the water. This version of "Shoreline" is currently on display at Gallery 224 in Port Washington, Wisconsin as part of the Fish and Ships exhibit.

The second version removed all color and really emphasized the texture elements of the picture. This version has a more "weathered" texture than the "surreal" texture of the first version. This version of "Shoreline" is currently on display as part of the Alternate Realities exhibit at Two Rivers City Hall, Two Rivers, Wisconsin.
